Periodic Testing for Cannock schools

Eicrtesting.com, based in the Midlands, advise that all electrical installation’s deteriorate with age/use and schools/universities are no different. Full in-depth testing, known as periodic, electrical testing or EICR is necessary to ensure the electrics are functioning correctly and operating safely, with the ultimate purpose of preventing electrical shocks or fires.

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) provides peace of mind – and documented proof – that reasonable measures have been taken to ensure the safety of electrical systems.

EICR legal obligations for schools

Government health and safety advice for schools sets out a school’s legal duties where health and safety is concerned. The main relevant legislation is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 which places responsibility on an employer (the local authority, governing body or proprietor) to take reasonable steps to ensure that staff and pupils are not exposed to risks to their health and safety.

Further, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires employers to assess the risks to staff and others affected by school activities in order to identify the health and safety measures that are necessary and, if applicable, keep a record of the findings of that assessment. They are also required to introduce measures to manage any risks and set out health and safety arrangements in a written health and safety policy.

Who can carry out an EICR?

Periodic testing and inspection should only be carried out by electrically competent, qualified electricians.

At EICR Testing Cannock, we go even further by making sure all our Cannock based periodic testers are trained to City & Guilds 2395 Inspection and Testing level. This additional specialist qualification is designed specifically for the periodic testing and inspection of electrical installations, which means we only send experts to each job.

For added peace of mind, we offer an extra level of security for schools as all our engineers are DBS checked.

The EICR testing process

We appreciate that schools across Cannock and the Midlands do not want to risk any disturbances to their lessons. The Electrical Installation Condition report test process varies greatly depending on the size of the school, but we will work with individual school timetables (and budgets) to ensure the work is carried out with minimum disruption. As the electrics need to be disconnected from the mains, we can arrange for work to be done during the evenings or in school holidays.

Tests are recommended every five years, but it may be more convenient to carry out an EICR in annual stages, inspecting 20 per cent of the electrical installation every year.

Our knowledgeable advisors are on hand to discuss your requirements and provide you with your bespoke EICR quote today.
