With all the Secret Santa and gift exchanges, December can be a fantastic time to take a step back and think how you can give your students the gift of safety by having a full Electrical Inspection Condition Report (EICR).

Eicrtesting.com, based in Birmingham, Coventry, Rugeley and most of the Midlands, advise that all electrical installation’s deteriorate with age/use and schools and universities are no different. Full in-depth testing, known as periodic or electrical testing, is necessary to ensure the electrics are functioning correctly and operating safetly.

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) provides peace of mind- and documented proof- that reasonable measures have been taken to ensure the safety of electrical systems.

EICR legal obligations for schools

Government health and safety advice for schools sets out a school’s legal duties where health and safety is concerned. The main relevant legislation is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 which places responsibility on an employer (the local authority, governing body or proprietor) to take reasonable steps to ensure that staff and pupils are not exposed to risks to their health and safety.

Further, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires employers to assess the risks to staff and others affected by school activities in order to identify the health and safety measures that are necessary and, if applicable, keep a record of the findings of that assessment. They are also required to introduce measures to manage any risks and set out health and safety arrangements in a written health and safety policy.

Who can carry out an EICR?

Electrical testing and inspection should only be carried out by electrically competent, qualified electricians.

At EICR Testing Birmingham, we go even further by making sure all our Birmingham and The Midlands based EICR testers are trained to City & Guilds 2395 Inspection and Testing level. This  means we only send experts to each job.

For added peace of mind, we offer an extra level of security for schools as all our engineers are DBS checked.

To find out more about our Coventry based EICR electricians don’t hesitate to give us a call.

The EICR testing process

Depending on the size of your Birmingham school, an EICR can sometimes cause some disturbances as the electrics will need to be turned off by the mains and so with schools across Birmingham closing over the Christmas period, it can be the perfect time for a full electrical test.

As we are now getting very close to the end of the year it’s very important for you to get in touch with our knowledgeable advisors as soon as possible to ensure you can make the most of your Christmas shutdown. Our  advisors are on hand to discuss your requirements and provide you with your bespoke EICR quote today.
