Annual emergency lighting duration tests and certificates to BS 5266-1 for offices, shops, warehouses, schools, care homes and venues across Coventry. Tested out of hours, with a certificate, an updated log book and fixed prices for any failed fittings.

Coventry's offices, shops, university buildings, logistics parks and engineering works all have escape routes that must be lit if the power fails. From city centre venues to big sheds on the M6 and M69, we test and certify emergency lighting right across the city.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep emergency lighting maintained and tested: a short functional test every month and a full rated-duration test, usually three hours, every year. We carry out the annual test and certify it. Read more about emergency lighting testing.
We test commercial and rented properties across the area, including:
After a three-hour duration test, batteries need up to 24 hours to recharge. Testing at the end of the day means your building isn't occupied while the system is flat.
Every building with escape routes, from a small shop to a distribution centre.
Escape routes, stairwells and open-plan floors, tested after hours.
Sales floors, stockrooms and exits, tested before opening.
Racking aisles, loading bays and plant areas, zone by zone.
Halls, corridors and classrooms, tested in the holidays.
Tested in stages so residents and patients are never left in the dark.
Bars, function rooms and bedrooms, tested before opening.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a full inspection and test of your fixed wiring, from the incoming supply and distribution boards to every final circuit. It shows whether your installation is safe to keep using, and gives you the evidence insurers, landlords and auditors expect under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
Problems found on test? As part of Able Electric, our electricians can carry out the repairs. Electrical installations & repairs since 2009.
Any C1, C2 or FI means an "Unsatisfactory" report. We explain each one and quote to put it right.
Maximum recommended intervals based on IET Guidance Note 3. Your insurer, or the condition and use of the installation, may call for shorter intervals.
When the power fails anywhere in Coventry, staff, customers and visitors need a clear, lit route to a safe exit. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must make sure emergency lighting is maintained and tested, and BS 5266-1 sets out how.
Failed fittings or batteries? We replace and retest them, and can upgrade old fittings to LED. Repairs carried out by Able Electric.
Short functional test. A brief check that each fitting switches to battery. Usually done in-house; we can show your staff how.
Full rated-duration test. Usually 3 hours on battery. Carried out and certified by us.
Log book kept up to date. Fire officers and insurers will ask to see it.
EICR Testing is part of Able Electric, who have been carrying out electrical installations and repairs across the Midlands since 2009. When your EICR, emergency lighting test or thermal survey finds a problem, the same NICEIC-approved team can fix it. There's no second contractor to find and nobody to re-brief.
What building owners, managers and responsible persons ask us before booking.

Every emergency luminaire and exit sign is run on battery for its full rated duration, usually three hours. We check each one stays lit, check coverage of escape routes, stairwells and open areas, and record the results.
Usually your own staff. It's a quick flick test to check each fitting switches to battery. We can show your team how to do it and record it.
We list every failed fitting or battery with its location and give you a fixed price to replace it. Older fittings can be upgraded to LED at the same time.
Yes. We test self-contained fittings and central battery systems, and check automatic test systems are reporting correctly.

We scan switchgear, distribution boards and connections for loose terminations, overloading, unbalanced phases and failing breakers, and report each hotspot with thermal images, temperatures and a priority rating.
Yes. Thermal imaging is done during the working day while you're running, with the EICR and emergency lighting duration test that evening or weekend. You get one set of RAMS, one contact and one combined list of any remedial work.
Yes. We provide site-specific RAMS before attendance, SafeContractor accreditation for supplier approval, testing programmed across all your sites, consistent reports, and remedial quotes itemised by observation code for budget sign-off.
Immediate dangers (C1) are made safe on the day. Everything else is explained in plain English and priced item by item. EICR Testing is part of Able Electric, carrying out electrical installations and repairs since 2009, so our own electricians can complete the work, out of hours if needed, and confirm it in writing.
