EICR and fixed wire testing, emergency lighting certification and thermal imaging surveys for Coventry manufacturers, logistics sites, offices, schools, universities and landlords. Testing is planned around your shifts and opening hours, including evenings, nights and weekends.
Coventry is the historic home of the British motor industry, and engineering is still at its heart. Automotive design and research, precision engineering and advanced manufacturing sit alongside some of the region's biggest logistics parks on the M6, M69, A45 and A46, and a busy city centre of offices, shops and hospitality.
Those sites run a lot of electrical plant: three-phase machinery, test rigs, compressors, EV chargers, high-bay lighting and data rooms. Regular EICR testing shows your installation is safe and insurable. Emergency lighting certification keeps escape routes compliant, and thermal imaging finds overheating connections before they stop a production line.
We test commercial and rented properties right across the city and surrounding area:
An EICR means isolating circuits one at a time. We agree an isolation plan with you first and test when it suits your site, keeping critical plant, servers and refrigeration live wherever possible.
From a single unit in Foleshill to multi-building estates and campuses.
Design, test and production facilities, machine shops and precision engineering with three-phase plant, test rigs and EV charging.
Large distribution and fulfilment centres on the M6 and M69 corridor, with high-bay lighting, sortation and long escape routes.
City centre offices and business parks, tested out of hours with servers, comms rooms and access control kept running.
Schools, academies, colleges and university buildings, tested in holidays and quiet periods with access planned around timetables.
Shops, restaurants, bars, hotels, gyms and event venues, tested before opening or overnight so customers are never affected.
Rented homes, HMOs and student houses across Coventry, with access arranged with tenants or your letting agent.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) checks whether your fixed wiring is safe to keep using, from the incoming supply and switchgear to every final circuit. For Coventry's engineering and logistics sites, it's also the evidence your insurer, auditors and the HSE expect under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
Problems found on test? As part of Able Electric, our electricians can carry out the repairs. Electrical installations & repairs since 2009.
Any C1, C2 or FI means an "Unsatisfactory" report. We explain each one and quote to put it right.
Maximum recommended intervals based on IET Guidance Note 3. Your insurer, or the condition and use of the installation, may call for shorter intervals.
When the power fails in a factory, distribution centre or lecture theatre, people need a clear, lit route past machinery, racking and stairwells to a safe exit. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must make sure emergency lighting is maintained and tested, and BS 5266-1 sets out how.
Failed fittings or batteries? We replace and retest them, and can upgrade old fittings to LED. Repairs carried out by Able Electric.
Short functional test. A brief check that each fitting switches to battery. Usually done in-house; we can show your staff how.
Full rated-duration test. Usually 3 hours on battery. Carried out and certified by us.
Log book kept up to date. Fire officers and insurers will ask to see it.
A thermal camera shows heat the eye can't see. We scan your switchgear, distribution boards, busbars and machinery connections while they run under full production load, with no shutdown and no lost output, and find faults before they cause a breakdown or a fire.
Hotspots found? Our electricians can fix the fault and rescan to confirm. Find out more about Able Electric.
Illustration. Your report includes the actual thermal images from your site.
EICR Testing is part of Able Electric, who have been carrying out electrical installations and repairs across the Midlands since 2009. When your EICR, emergency lighting test or thermal survey finds a problem, the same NICEIC-approved team can fix it. There's no second contractor to find and nobody to re-brief.
What manufacturers, facilities managers, schools and landlords across Coventry ask us before booking.

Yes. For factories and engineering sites we test during planned shutdowns, at weekends or between shifts. Circuits are isolated one at a time to an agreed plan, keeping critical plant, test equipment, servers and refrigeration live wherever possible. Offices and shops are usually tested in the evening or overnight.
Yes. We regularly test installations with three-phase machinery, motor control centres, test rigs, compressors, extraction and EV charging. We work to your site rules, permits and inductions, and provide site-specific RAMS before we attend.
The maximum recommended interval is three years for industrial premises and five years for offices, shops, warehouses and schools. Leisure facilities such as swimming pools are every year. Insurers can set shorter intervals, and the next test date is recommended on your report.
Yes. Big-shed logistics sites around the M6 and M69 have long cable runs, high-bay lighting, dock levellers, charging areas and sprinkler pumps. We plan the work around your operations, often testing zones overnight, and report each area separately so remedials are easy to schedule.
Yes. We carry out the annual full-duration test required by BS 5266-1, covering every fitting and exit sign along escape routes, stairwells, open areas and high-risk task areas. You receive a certificate and an updated log book. Failed fittings and batteries can be replaced, and old fittings upgraded to LED.
No. Thermal imaging is done while the installation is under normal load, so it's carried out during production. We scan switchgear, busbars, distribution boards, motor control centres and connections, and report each hotspot with thermal images, temperatures and a priority rating.
Yes. Thermal imaging is done during the working day while you're running, with the EICR and emergency lighting duration test that evening or weekend. You get one set of RAMS, one contact and one combined list of any remedial work.
Yes. We work with facilities managers, managing agents and organisations with several buildings or campuses. We provide site-specific RAMS, SafeContractor accreditation for supplier approval, testing programmed across all your buildings, consistent reports, and remedial quotes itemised by observation code.
Yes. Private landlords in England must have rented homes, including student houses and HMOs, inspected and tested at least every five years. You must give tenants a copy of the report, and supply it to Coventry City Council within 7 days if asked. Remedial work must be completed within 28 days. We often test student properties over the summer between tenancies.
Immediate dangers (C1) are made safe on the day. Everything else is explained in plain English and priced item by item. EICR Testing is part of Able Electric, carrying out electrical installations and repairs since 2009, so our own electricians can complete the work, out of hours if needed, and confirm it in writing.
